Areas Of Usage Protective Coveralls

Choose the right PPE for your situation

When it comes to the question of gowns vs coveralls, there is no one “right” solution. For COVID-19, any water-resistant garment is generally considered acceptable. Both gowns and coveralls are manufactured to varying standards, so it cannot be said that one is superior to the other.

The choice is best left to a manager who knows all the details of what his staff is facing every day. PPE products vary not only in their degree of water-resistance and permeability, but also in their fit, degree of coverage, and ease of donning and doffing. The best PPE strategy will take account of all these factors as they apply to your particular circumstances.

Start with an objective assessment of the level of risk your health-care workers face. Factors to consider include the nature of the patients’ illness; how far it has advanced; how symptomatic it has become; and what specific procedures are being used to treat it.

Having assessed the risk level, you can proceed to choose PPE based on factors such as coverage, seam and closure construction, and how easy it is to get the garments on and off.

Coveralls offer superior coverage, protecting your workers from hazards behind as well as in front. But they are not as fast as gowns to don and doff. And since fewer workers are accustomed to coveralls, you should introduce them thoughtfully.

Coveralls sold by MedKey meet all standard EN 14126 performance requirements. These include resistance to penetration by blood/bodily fluids (ISO 16603) and by blood-borne pathogens (ISO 16604) under different hydrostatic pressures ranging from class 1 (0 kPa) to class 6 (20 kPa).

MedKey offers two coverall products: one with bonded seams and one with stitched seams. Both meet European and U.S. standards. They have been certified for their protection against biological and infectious substances; against static and light radioactivity; and against potentially hazardous dust and splashes. All coverall products come individually packaged in four sizes.
